Black Forest German Restaurant & Bar launched The Sausage Challenge at Changkat Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur on 24 October 2014. Contestants were required to finish 20 sausages, 2 side dishes and 1 pint of beer within 12 minutes.
Competitive eating is most popular in United States, Canada and Japan, but Werner Kuhn, CEO of Werner’s Group and founder of Black Forest thinks that modern-day competitive eating is not as easy as we think. “Participants today don’t only eat to train, but they undergo rigorous workouts to building their overall physique. If you watch food eating contest in the West, half of them are neither big nor fat. They are regular gym goers and they come up with new tactics to digest food more efficiently,” he said in reference to celebrity competitive eater, Takeru Kobayashi, with his trademark move, the ‘Kobayashi Shake’ which involves jumping up and down, and shaking side to side to clear out more room in the body. “The number one aim of this Challenge is to have fun but I’m looking forward to seeing new records being set in Malaysia’s competitive eating scene,” he said at the launch.
